CALL FOR PROPOSALS

                                                                      » Submit a Proposal

THE PROPOSAL asks for important information that we need to have at hand in case we need to contact you before the event. Please fill it out thoroughly and don’t forget to include your name as you wish it to appear in the certificate, your gender, telephone numbers, email address and nationality.

THE DESCRIPTION of your presentation is a 100-300 word detailed description of what you plan to do during the presentation. This is not a lesson plan, but a description of activities to be conducted and a very short theoretical background (if this applies). If you have tried out this presentation before, please tell us where and what public you addressed. Also, please write the description in third person as much as possible.

CO-PRESENTERS will also have to complete part of the proposal form. Please fill it out thoroughly. Failure to complete this part of the form could end in co-presenter’s name not appearing in the program and having to pay a fee to present.

PROPOSAL ACCEPTANCE depends on many factors. There is a deadline, so people submitting the proposal before that deadline will have priority. Importance to the ELT reality inCosta Rica and the region is also an important consideration when choosing presentations. Of course, if too many people address the same topic, we would select presentations on the quality bases first, and then, first-come-first-served bases. We will send you an email sometime at the end of October, telling you whether your proposal was accepted or not.

TYPE OF PRESENTATION

In the conference program, each abstract will be labeled with the following descriptions so participants will know what they are signing up for in each of the sessions.  Please indicate the type of presentation in the space provided in the Proposal Form.

WORKSHOP: The presenter works with the group, helping them to develop a specific teaching technique or a hands-on activity. The emphasis is on the participants? interaction that has to be carefully structured by the presenter.

LECTURE:
A lecture discusses and describes a topic the presenter is working on or has worked on in relation to either theory or practice. Participation from the audience is usually limited to questions and discussion during or at the end of the lecture. All plenary sessions are lectures.

DEMONSTRATION:
Rather than describing or discussing, a demonstration shows a technique for teaching or testing. The presenter
?s statement of the theory underlying the technique is usually brief. The rest of the time is used for showing, rather than telling.

RESEARCH IN PROGRESS:
A report which discusses ongoing research: includes presentation of the problem, methodology, implications of research, and so on. The presentation is followed by a discussion with the audience.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE PRESENTATION

We would appreciate your cooperation in keeping the quality of presentations by observing the following:

  1. The title of the presentation should clearly reflect its content.
  2. Abstracts should express explicitly what will be done during the presentation.
  3. Participants usually ask for handouts. These handouts should be written clearly, outlining the main ideas. Please have them proofread.  Except for presenters from abroad, all handouts should be provided by the institution they are representing.
  4. Less experienced presenters should also consider good public speaking skills. This includes language proficiency, the organization of ideas, clarity in presentation, effective audio-visual aids, active pacing, and effective body language.
  5. Keep a copy of this form after completion for your own reference. In case of multiple presenters, please fill out a separate form for each, and send them together. Make sure that your co-presenters receive all correspondence sent by the organizers.
  6. Remember that presentations are 70 minutes long (1hr, 10 min.)
